i haven't had lots of time to blog or read anyone else's blog lately. the church secretary up and quit about 3+ weeks ago without any notice and i've been pulling double duty ever since. (the good news is that we've had one really great interview and have 3 more scheduled next week... )
but today, i decided to take a look at abb's blog (she's first in my alphabetized list of favorites) and read this and decided it was well worth giving you all a link and then a thought... what if it had said this:
John 13:34
"Jesus said, 'I give you a new commandment, that you tolerate one another. Just as I have tolerated you, you also should tolerate one another.'"
God's peace y'all

A good thought, but I'm not so keen on the word "tolerate." To me tolerate sounds like "put up with" as in "I don't really like you, actually you grate on my nerves, but I'll be good enough to tolerate you nevertheless." Rather than toleration I'm more inclined to want to see acceptance as in "we may be very different, I may not understand you, I don't even know if we can get along, but I'll do my best to accept you because Jesus accepts you and who am I to judge."
GREAT link, (P)Cats, like I told her, we read a great book in a class I took last semester called 'Love the Sin' in which the author(s) made a very simliar point...and I most definitely agree!
Hope you get a new secretary, and *quick*!
And I wish more Christian pastors would read that particular Bible verse, but you know that.
cats,
just wanted to thank you for your post over on the ordinary time devotional blog - I was just reading it again and it is very moving!
